當猴子喪失手部的知覺時，會對大腦造成什麼影響呢? 蘇爾 (Mriganka Sur)說：「一般看法認為，當大腦喪失某種知覺的傳入時，原來收到感覺訊號的皮質會形成一個黑洞。」蘇爾當時是卡司的一個研究生。

p.33 原文：
How had the absence of a signal from the monkey’s hand to its brain affected it? “The standard view was that when you deprive the brain of this sensory input, there should be like a black hole in the cortex where it used to receive that input,” says Mriganka Sur, who was a graduate student of Kaa’s at the time.

猴子的手如果無法傳遞訊號到腦部，會對大腦造成什麼影響呢? 當時跟著卡斯做研究的學生蘇爾說：「一般的看法是，大腦如果接收不到任何感覺，就好像是在原本接收訊號的皮質上，產生了一個黑洞。」


評論：
1. 第一句原文為 “the absence of a signal from the monkey’s hand to its brain” 可是譯文的翻法是 “猴子的手喪失知覺”，並沒有把手部無法傳遞訊號到腦部的意思翻譯出來。

2. 在翻譯研究生的敘述時，有兩個很明顯的錯誤。第一是原文所謂的 “black hole”應該是一種比喻，但是譯文的譯法好像是真的有一個黑洞。再來是在翻譯引述話語時，應該要依照中文語法把說話人的身份在引用前先介紹，不然就會變成沒有轉化為中文語法的直譯式翻譯。
